Ingredients

All these ingredients are readily available all year round, so you can enjoy this any time of the year. My favorite time is with fresh summer tomatoes, but that doesn’t stop me from eating this in the middle of winter.

  • Bagels: Toasted everything bagels or whatever your favorite type of bagel is. Tasty options are onion, sesame seed, whole wheat, plain, or rosemary sea salt.
  • Bacon: 6 slices of bacon. I love to use applewood smoked uncured bacon, however you can use your preferred kind.
  • Lettuce: Any type of crispy leaf lettuce for the best texture. I prefer either romaine or baby crispy green leaf lettuce. You could substitute for whatever greens you have on hand though, like spinach or a spring mix.
  • Tomato: Ripe slicing tomatoes. Any kind will work, just be sure they are perfectly ripe! I love vine ripened tomatoes, Roma tomatoes or even heirloom tomatoes. I try to stay away from beefsteak tomatoes, as they aren’t quite as flavorful.
  • Mayonnaise: Mayo is my condiment of choice, however you can substitute it for whatever you like on your BLT’s.

Step-By-Step Instructions To Make A Bagel BLT

  1. Spread the mayo evenly on the toasted bagels. Layer the bacon, lettuce, and tomato slices.
  2. Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!

Expert Tip: Be sure to toast the bagels to prevent them from getting soggy from the mayo and tomato.

What Is The Best Way To Cook Bacon

For the most easy and evenly cooked bacon, bake it in the oven! Though you can certainly fry it in a pan, I think it comes out so much better in the oven. Here is my favorite method:

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with foil for easy clean up. Place a metal cooling rack on top of the foil-lined baking sheet to allow for air flow. Lay the bacon strips on the rack and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until desired crispiness. Transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb the remaining bacon grease. Serve and enjoy.

Variations

I love to keep this sandwich classic, with your typical BLT ingredients of bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. If you want to switch it up, here are some recommendations.

  • Swap out the mayo. You could substitute for cream cheese, dijon mustard, ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing.
  • Add more toppings. A fried egg is perfect to make this into a breakfast or brunch. You could also add a piece of grilled chicken, avocado, cucumber slices, or any other favorite sandwich toppings.
  • Give it more flavor. Add a slice of cheese, like cheddar, American or provolone. For an extra kick, top with a little hot sauce.

Serve this Bagel BLT Sandwich for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or even dinner! It’s great any time of day.
