Ingredients
- Old Fashioned Oats: Use old-fashioned rolled oats in this recipe. I don't recommend using quick oats since they're cut into smaller pieces and will affect the texture. Be sure to use gluten-free oats if you're making them gluten-free.
- Baking Powder: Just a teaspoon of baking powder helps baked oatmeal from becoming too dense.
- Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon for added flavor.
- Salt: Fine sea salt to round out the flavors.
- Milk: Use your favorite type of milk in this recipe. Dairy milk, oat milk, or unsweetened almond milk are all great options.
- Greek Yogurt: 0% fat plain greek yogurt to make this oatmeal perfectly moist and add some protein. You can substitute for unsweetened applesauce.
- Maple Syrup: Pure maple syrup to naturally sweeten the oats. You can swap it out for honey or brown sugar.
- Butter: A pat of unsalted butter will add a hint of buttery flavor and richness. You could substitute for a plant-based butter substitute, melted coconut oil, or vegetable oil.
- Vanilla Extra: Pure vanilla extract for flavor.
- Egg: An egg will help bind the oats together. You can substitute for a flax egg if you're making it vegan or egg-free.
- Strawberries: Sliced, fresh strawberries. If strawberries aren't in season, you can use frozen strawberries, adding more baking time as needed.

Variations
- Swap out the fruit. Use your favorite fruit or combination of fruits in this recipe. Some excellent options are blueberries, raspberries, bananas, cherries, apples, and pears. Mixed berry baked oatmeal is always a hit! Be sure to slice or dice the fruit into bite-sized pieces.
- Add nuts. Before baking, stir in your favorite chopped nuts, like pecans, walnuts, or almonds.
- Stir in chocolate chips. I love to add chocolate chips for a breakfast treat. Stir in ⅓ cup of regular or mini dark chocolate chips before baking.
- Make it vegan. This recipe is easy to make vegan. Replace the egg with a flaxseed egg, swap out the Greek yogurt for unsweetened applesauce, the butter for a plant-based butter, and use plant-based milk like oat, almond, or soy milk.

How to Select Fresh Strawberries
If possible, try to buy fresh produce locally at your farmer's market or the local produce section of your grocery store.
Look for fresh strawberries with a vibrant red color and fresh green leaves that aren't wilting. They should smell fresh and strongly of strawberry. Avoid berries that are growing mold or are mushy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
No, steel-cut oats will not work in this recipe since they take much longer to soften.
Though you can typically find fresh strawberries in grocery stores year-round, they're in season from late May through early July.
Old fashioned rolled oats are the best oats for baking. They hold their shape better than quick oats and absorb liquid faster than steel-cut oats.
