Why You’ll Love This Recipe

My favorite thing about this nutritious and delicious smoothie is that it’s made without bananas. I don’t love them, so I always look for smoothie recipes without bananas.

  • It’s quick and easy! Smoothies are always a go-to breakfast for busy mornings since they take just 5 minutes to make.
  • A healthier breakfast option. This smoothie is loaded with fruit for added nutrition. Greek yogurt adds some extra protein, and you can use a natural sweetener, like honey, to add a little more sweetness.
  • The flavors are so good. Blueberries and peaches are the perfect flavor combination. Use frozen wild blueberries for a more intense blueberry flavor. If you have extra farm-stand fresh peaches during the summertime peach season, you can freeze them before using them in the smoothie for even more flavor.

Ingredients

You can make this smoothie with just five simple ingredients!

Blueberry Peach Smoothie Ingredients.
  • Frozen Peaches: Frozen sliced peaches are a must. If you want fresh peaches, peel and slice them, then pop them in the freezer the night before making your smoothie.
  • Frozen Blueberries: I love to use frozen wild blueberries in my smoothies. They’re smaller than regular blueberries, with a more intense flavor and more nutrients. However, any frozen blueberries will work in this recipe.
  • Milk: Any type of milk you choose is excellent in this smoothie. I prefer low-fat dairy or unsweetened almond milk, but other plant-based milk options are great.
  • Greek Yogurt: For added thickener, use 0% fat plain Greek yogurt. It also gives this smoothie some added protein.
  • Honey: If you like a sweeter smoothie, add a drizzle of honey or pure maple syrup. For a less sweet smoothie, leave out the sweetener.

Expert Tip: For the best consistency, use frozen fruit. If you have a bunch of fresh blueberries and peaches from the farmer’s market, freeze them overnight before using in your smoothie. Read more about how to freeze sweet summer fruit.

Variations

Get creative in customizing your smoothie! You can add a boost of nutrition or flavor using some of these recommendations.

  • Add some oats. Add 1/4 cup of quick oats for some whole grains.
  • Swap out the fruit. Although blueberries and peaches are a perfect flavor pairing, you can swap them out for your favorite fruit combinations! Raspberries and strawberries both go great with peaches. Or, if you don’t have peaches, try some nectarine or mango slices.
  • Give it a burst of flavor. Add a splash of vanilla extract, some grated fresh ginger, or ground cinnamon.
  • Make it vegan. Use a vegan yogurt, or substitute the yogurt for another thickener like riced cauliflower or a banana. Use your favorite plant-based milk and pure maple syrup as a sweetener.
  • Make it dairy free. Similar to making it vegan, you can make it dairy free by using a dairy-free or plant-based milk and yogurt substitute.
  • Add more protein. Stir in a small scoop of unflavored protein powder or your favorite nut butter, like peanut butter or almond butter.
  • Make it green. Blend in your favorite greens, like spinach, if you want to add veggies.

Tips for Making the Best Smoothie

When I make smoothies, I don’t typically measure the ingredients. Even though I’m estimating, I always follow a general ratio of fruit to liquid to thickener. Read on for more details on how to make the best smoothie.

Ratio: Many people recommend a smoothie with three parts fruit, two parts liquid, and one part thickener; however, I like to include more fruit in my smoothies. It makes them sweeter without added sweetener and increases my fruit consumption. I like to follow a ratio of:

  • 4-5 parts frozen fruit
  • 2 parts liquid (or more as needed)
  • 1 part thickener (like Greek yogurt, banana, or frozen riced cauliflower)

Blender: Use a powerful blender, like my favorite small blender.

Frozen Fruit: For a thicker texture, use frozen fruit. If you use fresh fruit, you need to add some ice cubes for the right consistency, which could water the smoothie down when they melt.

Adjust the Liquid: Some fruit will create a thicker consistency than others, so you may need to adjust the amount of liquid. If it’s too thick, add more milk and blend until incorporated.
