    Crispy Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes.

You're going to love these Crispy Air Fryer Smashed Potatoes! They're a great side dish that go with just about anything. Serve them for a brunch or dinner side, or with some dipping sauce for a delicious appetizer.

Why Make Smashed Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Smashed Potatoes are typically baked in the oven, however they get extra crispy in the air fryer! Whether you decide to make these in the air fryer, or just bake them, they'll be ready in less than an hour but are very easy to make. These are vegetarian, vegan, and the perfect vegetable side dish.

    Ingredients

Just a few simple ingredients come together for these smashed potatoes.

Potatoes: Baby red or yellow potatoes. Be sure to use baby potatoes instead of larger potatoes, because they get extra crispy and are easier to handle.

Olive Oil: A large drizzle of olive oil to add some flavor and get them nice and crispy.

Seasoning: Garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt and pepper to add a subtle savory flavor.

Parsley: Fresh parsley, chopped, for serving.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Though these air fryer smashed potatoes aren't the quickest potatoes to make, they're actually very simple and well worth the time.

    1. Boil the potatoes. Add potatoes to a medium pot. Fill with cold water so it covers the potatoes by about an inch. Season with salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook for 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are soft enough to pierce with a fork.
    2. Drain and smash. Drain the potatoes, then place on a large baking sheet or work surface. Let them cool for about 5 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Use the bottom of a glass to gently smash the potatoes. (Be sure to leave them somewhat thick to make it easy to transfer to the air fryer.)
    3. Season. Drizzle both sides with olive oil. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
    4. Air Fry. Place the smashed potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You will likely need to cook these in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy around the edges and golden. Repeat with remaining smashed potatoes.
    5. Heat all the smashed potatoes. After the last batch is done, add all the smashed potatoes back into the air fryer (don't worry about a single layer this time) and cook for 1-2 minutes until they're all heated through.
    6. Serve. Sprinkle with more sea salt as desired. Top with chopped parsley (optional). Serve warm and enjoy!

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

    When are potatoes in season?

Though you can typically find potatoes at the grocery store all year round, potatoes are in season during the fall and winter. They're harvested in the fall, but store well, so are fresh throughout the winter.

If I don't have an air fryer, can I bake these air fryer smashed potatoes in the oven?

Yes! Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy around the edges.

How do I store smashed potatoes?

You can store smashed potatoes in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The best way to reheat them is in an oven preheated to 425° until warmed through.
