Ingredients
Just a few simple ingredients are tossed together to make these air fryer seasoned steak fries. You likely already have them in your kitchen!
- Potatoes: Yukon Gold potatoes are the best variety for these steak fries. They crisp up nicely on the outside and are the most creamy and tender on the inside. You could substitute for Russet potatoes, but they may be a little more dry on the inside with less flavor.
- Olive Oil: Using just a little Olive Oil in this recipe helps the fries get crispy on the outside.
- Seasoning: Paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and sea salt.

Seasoning for Steak Fries
This recipe uses a homemade fry seasoning that's super easy to make with just a handful of typical pantry spices. You could even make a big batch and store in a jar for later. These include paprika (or smoked paprika for a smoky flavor), garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and sea salt. Make sure your spices are fresh and not expired for the best flavor.
When Are Potatoes In Season
Potatoes are in season during the fall and winter! If you're anything like me, then you love to enjoy vegetables when they are in season. Though you can typically find potatoes at the grocery store all year round, they're usually harvested in the fall. Since they store well, potatoes stay fresh throughout the winter.
How to Make Steak Fries
These air fryer seasoned steak fries are simple to make.
- Heat the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F.
- Prepare the potatoes. Wash and dry the potatoes. Cut each lengthwise into thick wedges, about ½" thick. Place the wedges in a large mixing bowl, and toss with the olive oil until coated. Add the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and sea salt. Toss until combined.
- Air fry. Place the potato wedges in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You will likely need to cook these in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook for 16-18 minutes, flipping halfway. Remove when crispy around the edges and creamy on the inside. Repeat with remaining potato wedges.
- Heat all the fries. Add all the steak fries back into the basket (don't worry about a single layer this time) and cook for 1-2 minutes until they're all crispy and heated through.
- Serve. Season with more sea salt, to taste. These are best served immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
How Long to Cook Steak Fries in the Air Fryer
Cook time may vary depending on which air fryer you are using. I heat this basket style air fryer to 380°F. Check them at 16 minutes, and if they're still not crispy, continue cooking until they are done.
Variations
I love these Air Fryer Seasoned Steak Fries as is, but here are a few variations and serving suggestions.
- Bake in the oven. If you don't have an air fryer, then you can bake these steak fries in the oven. They won't get as crispy baked, but they'll still be delicious. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Bake in a single layer on a large baking sheet for 35-40 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
- Make them cheese steak fries. Sprinkle some freshly grated parmesan, pecorino, or cotija cheese.
- Loaded steak fries. Top with your favorite cheese, pico de gallo or classic guacamole. They're even great with crumbled bacon!
Serving Suggestions
Serve with fresh herbs. Once these are cooked, top with some fresh herbs, like parsley, rosemary, or thyme.
Favorite dipping sauce. These thick cut fries are perfect for dipping. Serve them with ketchup, garlic aioli, sriracha mayo, or honey mustard. I also enjoy serving them with some mayo with a squeeze of lemon juice and freshly chopped parsley.
